Psychic Triangulation

Tina and I were introduced to one of Amber's friends at their usual haunt, the Doghouse. Jessie was a heavy-set woman with native American or Hispanic features. She presented herself as a gifted psychic. She seemed very amiable and she and I were the only members of the party who weren't drinking.

Early in the night, she said "You two are trying to conceive, aren't you?"

Tina and I weren't exactly "trying" to conceive a child, but we weren't taking any pains not to and we'd been discussing the subject in depth. Tina believed she had fertility issues and after years of unprotected sex not producing a pregnancy, it seemed one of us must have. We had just recently been discussing seeing a fertility specialist, but not until after we were married. In the meanwhile, we were rolling the dice.

Tina acted impressed by her insight, but I didn't really think she was buying into the notion that Jessie had any real powers of prognostication. Engaged couples will tend to discuss having kids!

At some point, Tina and Jessie disappeared out on to the patio for an extended conversation. After a while, I was craving some nicotine, so I wandered out onto the patio and lit a cigarette. I saw the two of them and approached, but was reproached by Tina. "We're talking about you right now," she said. "can you go back inside for a few minutes?"

I shrugged, snuffed my cigarette and went back into the bar where I tried to make conversation with Amber. It was a little awkward. She never warmed to me. After a bit, others in the gang were heading out to smoke so I joined them. I guess the private conversation was over and we all gathered together to chat.

  1. Maybe it wasn't manipulation at all and instead an unbiased individual who's witnessing both of your behaviors and can see how badly matched you were. I'd witnessed it myself on multiple occasions, it didn't take longer than a few minutes to see that neither of you were right for each other. You seem to accuse everyone around you of being evil and of ill intent, all the while accusing them of being narcissistic, but your writing makes you sound very narcissistic. It's all about you and how everyone has wronged you, you fail to see how badly you treated your friends in all of this. You've never done anything wrong though, exactly the way a narcissist thinks. Maybe it's time to start looking at yourself and how you can be a better person instead of making up stories about everyone. As a witness to a lot of these stories I'd like to remind everyone : these are the words of someone who was heavily intoxicated during a lot of these scenarios, self proclaimed alcoholic I believe you admitted it was so bad you were having withdrawals? His recollections are less fact, and more a world seen through whiskey lenses with less than half truths. Yes Tina wronged you, but you're quite the exaggerator and story teller.

  2. I invite your corrections.

It's interesting that Tina used to say the exact same thing about couples not being right for each other when she had more than a friendly interest in the man. I guess it was supposed to be some kind of justification. She said it about at least four couples I can think of off the top of my head. In fact, your comment reads just like something she would say.

By the way, anonymous, one of the ways I've worked on being a better person is that I haven't had a drink in over two years. I've been seeing things with disturbing clarity. It's not everyone around me who acted with ill-intent. Just Tina, you and her sycophants.
